چکیده

Exploring new fields: Lanthanide-using bacteria that turn over methane or methanol in their metabolism can replace essential lanthanides by certain actinides. In Research Article (e202303669), Lena J. Daumann et al. show an extremophile isolated from a volcanic mud-pot as well methylotrophic laboratory strain use americium and curium. vivo growth experiments vitro studies with the key metabolic enzyme dehydrogenase support these actinides sustain one-carbon of bacteria.

Lanthanides and Actinides

The application of quantum chemistry to systems containing atoms of the lanthanide (57La 71Lu) and/or actinide (90Th 103Lr) series is a considerable challenge and has been attempted only by a comparatively small number of researchers. Several complications, some of which will be described in the following, prevent standard quantum chemical approaches from being successful in this field in all r...

Utilizing electronic effects in the modulation of BTPhen ligands with respect to the partitioning of minor actinides from lanthanides.

Effects of bromine substitution at the 5 and 5,6-positions of the 1,10-phenanthroline nucleus of BTPhen ligand on their extraction properties for Ln(III) and An(III) cations have been studied. Compared to C5-BTPhen, electronic modulation in BrC5-BTPhen and Br2C5-BTPhen enabled these ligands to be fine-tuned in order to enhance the separation selectivity of Am(III) from Eu(III).

Ribonucleotide reductases: essential enzymes for bacterial life

Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) is a key enzyme that mediates the synthesis of deoxyribonucleotides, the DNA precursors, for DNA synthesis in every living cell. This enzyme converts ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, the building blocks for DNA replication, and repair. Clearly, RNR enzymes have contributed to the appearance of genetic material that exists today, being essential for the evo...

Highly efficient separation of actinides from lanthanides by a phenanthroline-derived bis-triazine ligand.

The synthesis, lanthanide complexation, and solvent extraction of actinide(III) and lanthanide(III) radiotracers from nitric acid solutions by a phenanthroline-derived quadridentate bis-triazine ligand are described. The ligand separates Am(III) and Cm(III) from the lanthanides with remarkably high efficiency, high selectivity, and fast extraction kinetics compared to its 2,2'-bipyridine counte...
